Not many 18 year olds can attract the attention of top music producers and get a legendary rock musician to write a demo song. But Nicky Barot is not your average 17 year old–he’s well on his way to being the next big name on the music scene.
A singer, songwriter and guitarist, Nicky has been turning heads of all ages as an up and coming artist. His self-titled debut album was released during the summer of 2008 at the same time Nicky wowed fans at the fashion industry’s Michael Awards in New York City with a show stopping guitar solo that rivaled his arena-playing guitar heroes.
Nicky’s career began at the age of seven, when, after receiving his first guitar as a gift from his parents, he learned to play by ear and was soon dubbed a “guitar prodigy” by John Robert Powers Talent School instructors. Inspired by listening to his father’s classic rock collection, Nicky found an instant appreciation for legendary bands AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Guns N’ Roses and Poison. He quickly became immersed as a student of rock and roll, gaining more knowledge about 70’s era rock bands than most adults who lived through those years. With his ability to knock out hit songs on a moment’s notice, he often takes music enthusiasts on a trip to their rock and roll roots.
Encouraged by his family, Nicky competed in the 2005 International Presentation of Performers (IPOP) in New York City and won 1st place honors, making it clear that his future was in music. By combining his engaging stage presence, ability to sing, and memorable guitar technique, Nicky’s ability to mesmerize an audience was apparent from the start.
An introduction to music producer Michael Binikos led to a creative collaboration that resulted in Nicky’s first demo song, “What Were You thinking,” co-written by Motley Crüe guitarist Nikki Sixx. Nicky turned the song into his first music video, debuting it on Youtube in 2007 and getting close to 10,000 hits.
His exposure really gained a foothold in 2008, as Nicky began touring with The Tremaine Dance Company across the country performing to thousands of teenage fans. Later that year, Nicky and his band won the Orange County “Battle of Bands” at the Block of Orange, for which he was invited back the following year to both headline and judge.
Continuing to gain exposure throughout the music community, Nicky was invited as the honorary guest performer at the Costa Rica Jazz Dance Fest where once again his engaging stage presence and commanding musical style wowed thousands of screaming fans, this time with a very intimate acoustic performance.
2010, Nicky and his band performed at some the the most popular and hottest music venues in Los Angeles. They performed to a packed house at The House of Blues, The Roxy in Hollywood and Chain Reaction just to mention a few. In addition to music Nicky can also be seen on the HBO hit “Hung” where he plays a high school baseball player.
2011 was a year where Nicky focused on new songs, lyrics and the production of a new music video filmed by Blue Horizon Pictures.
In 2012, Nicky plans to launch his new EP produced by Mickey Jack Cones and will debut his new music video.
